Dallas Artist Susan Whigham

A self-taught artist, Susan is inspired by local nature, from her sprawling flower garden and its welcome pollinators to the breathtaking cloudscapes and landscapes of North Texas. With her signature use of vivid colors, simple backgrounds, plays of light and shadow, and contemporary color palettes, Susan primarily creates large-scale works which can be found in public and private collections worldwide.

My inspiration is clearly rooted in nature. I took the lessons learned during my mostly self-taught journey through painting and applied them to flower gardening. Somewhere between my constant attempts and a stubborn unwillingness to give up, paintings started looking the way I could see them in my head, and the flowers in my garden started blooming.

Snapshots from the Garden

By growing the majority of her inspiration, Susan creates timeless artworks while also promoting gardening and the protection of Earth’s vital pollinators.

Susan’s husband stretches many of her canvases and builds all of her custom frames, while her two teenage sons work as studio assistants. From the flowers in the garden to each finished piece, Susan’s artistry is a family-style, farm to canvas experience.
